Day 3 of the adventure tour didn't disappoint! It was a very long day though. We woke up at 5:45 AM and took a 3 hour air conditioned bus ride too a marina where we loaded up all 23 of us on a big boat. We went cruised a long for a while being followed by a traditional Thai longboat until we reached a big limestone island. I paired up with Jake on a kayak and we set off to kayak around the island. We explored a limestone cave. I was on the back and I had a hard time steering us sometimes but we made it through. It was pretty cool though, I think a bat pooped on me.
After the cave we kayaked around the island. All the edges of the island are concave and have massive stalactites hanging down from the ceilings, almost touching the water in several places. I had to be very precise In my steering to avoid them, it was a beautiful experience that's hard to put in words. I have little photos to load because I didn't want to further ruin my phone, but I took a couple pictures on a waterproof disposable.
After kayaking we all hopped back in the boat and had lunch. In America, I'd bet lunch would be a sandwich or some granola bars. In Thailand, lunch on the boat is rice, broccoli, pork, mixed vegetables, spicy fish, tofu soup, and pineapple and watermelon wedges. No big deal though;). I have never had so much fruit in my life. Today I've had good portions of fruit for every meal and in between, I need to eat this good back home.
Once we finished we headed to an another island where we would stay the night. This island is 99% Muslim, as opposed to a majority Buddhist population inland. Once we checked into our guesthouse we went for a swim in the ocean. The view from the beach is beautiful, you can see all sorts of limestone cliffs way out into the distance. The tide was very low so we swam way far out it was great. For a couple hours I spent my time relaxing in hammocks and trying to balance on the slack line. A slack line is like a tight rope in a way but a little wider and very bouncy.. It's extremely hard, i managed to go about halfway without falling.
After a great dinner of various kebabs and fried rice, the locals gave us a muay thai demonstration. Muay Thai is like boxing, but it consists of 5 rounds, each lasting 3 minutes of fighting. After the fights were over, people from the audience were allowed to volunteer to put gloves on and hit and kick at a local with pads on his arms. Depending on where the local would place his arms would indicate whether you kicked, punched, kneed, or elbowed at the pads. I gave it a go, understanding I would likely embarrass myself because that's just how I do. It was fun kicking and punching I felt very satisfied afterwards.
It was a long but great day, I'm loving the adventure tour. Tomorrow we are sea kayaking through some mangrove forests and ending the day in railay beach. I should have Internet connection to post this, so if you are reading this I wrote this post yesterday and I will have today's post up soon:).
Oh, and notice the picture of the urinal, I am frequently forced into these situations. I could see people walking around outside while taking a whizz haha.
Three things:
ReplyDelete1) A bat taking a crap on me would not be referenced as an 'oh by the way' kind of comment if I was talking about it. Unbelievable.
2) The toilet is disgusting
3) Thailand is beautiful and I'm glad you're having such a great experience!! I love and miss you!!
